An elastomeric device is a device used to deliver medication through your intravenous (IV) line. Medication is put in a balloon-like chamber, and pressure from the balloon delivers the medication at a safe and steady rate. It is the preferred method of administration by patients, nurses, and physicians. Using an elastomeric pump to infuse IV medications offers many benefits. Elastomeric pumps do not require gravity like traditional IVs. They’re small, lightweight, and portable so there is no need for an IV pole. These pumps can be carried in a pouch or even sometimes a pocket. Depending on the type of medication being used, there are potential storage advantages because freezing or refrigeration is possible. These devices come with their own pre-attached tubing which minimizes additional expenses.
