The Benefits of Stand-Alone Infusion Centers

March 24, 2021 | Paragon Infusion Centers
Stand-alone infusion centers are incredibly beneficial. Not only do they provide flexibility and convenience to patients, but they also offer high-quality, cost-effective care, in a controlled setting.
The Benefits Of Stand Alone Infusion Centers

Infusible and injectable therapies are used to treat a wide range of diseases and conditions. Some common therapies administered include IVIG (immunoglobulin therapy) and antibiotics. In the past, infusion therapy was limited to the hospital setting, but now patients have access to a range of infusion service options, including stand-alone infusion centers. These clinics are becoming more common and popping up in major cities nationwide, including Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Atlanta, and more.

Stand-alone infusion centers are incredibly beneficial. Not only do they provide flexibility and convenience to patients, but they also offer high-quality, cost-effective care in a controlled setting. These centers administer specialty biologic medications to treat Crohn’s disease, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, multiple sclerosis, and other diseases and conditions.

What are the benefits of receiving treatment at an infusion center?

Personalized service. Treatment at an infusion center is tailored to meet each patient's needs. When a person receives a diagnosis from their doctor that requires infusion therapy, they will be referred to an infusion provider to complete their treatment. At Paragon, our clinical team collaborates directly with the patient and their physician to develop a care plan that is unique to them and designed to improve their overall quality of life. Since the centers are fairly small, many of the clinicians become well acquainted with the patients that frequent their location. This can instill patients with greater comfort and confidence when they go to receive their treatment.

Comfortable atmosphere. Since infusion centers focus solely on administering specialty drugs, they are often more comfortable. Infusions may take up multiple hours of the patient's day, and many centers have nice recliners, coffee and snacks, magazines, TVs, and more to provide as much comfort as possible. Our Paragon Infusion Centers even provide their patients with free parking and Wi-Fi at most locations.

Convenient scheduling. Many infusion centers allow patients to book their appointment for their therapy ahead of time so they can schedule their life around it. At Paragon, we offer patients even greater flexibility by being open 365 days a year, including holidays and weekends, so that they can receive their treatment when it's convenient for them. Receiving treatment in the hospital setting often limits patients to the nursing staff's administration schedule, but infusion centers empower patients to have a voice in their health care routine.

Cost-effective care. Receiving treatment at an infusion center or in the home setting is a cost-effective and convenient alternative to therapies administered at a hospital. An infusion of Remicade, for example, can cost more than $10,000 in a hospital, but at an independent, stand-alone infusion center, the average charge is $4,500. The exact same medication, administered using the same method, is more than two times more expensive in the hospital setting. Other specialty medications can be three to four times more costly in the same scenario. Infusion centers are economical solutions that reduce much of the burden of the cost of specialty medications to the health care system. Our Infusion Centers often utilize financial initiatives called Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs), which are created by pharmaceutical companies to provide free or discounted medicine to people who are unable to afford them. Each program has its own qualifying criteria and can make infusion care significantly more cost-effective for patients.
